College Description

Praxis is a premier B School in Kolkata, India offering a 2 year full-time residential Post-Graduate Program in Business Management and a 1-year full-time Post-Graduate Program in Business Analytics. To address the community of working professionals who are keen to equip themselves with the skills of a data scientist but are not in a position to take a career break, Praxis offers intense weekend programs in Big Data & Analytics from city campuses at Kolkata and Bangalore.

The name Praxis symbolizes the philosophy of the institute. The root of Praxis is Greek, meaning ‘to do’, or the practice of an art, science or technical occupation. In the realm of higher education, Praxis stands for a learning program that is designed around a professional body of subject matter which serves to bring about what is valued or ought to be valued through action. In other words, Praxis is ‘practice informed by theory and theory informed by direct practice.’ That is what Praxis Business School endeavours to bring to you – a program that combines the art and science of theoretical learning with the virtues of practical training.

In its initial years, Praxis was supported by faculty inputs from XLRI, a premier business school in the country, with its proven expertise in management education, enabling Praxis’ journey on its path to ‘growing into a premier Business School which aims at magic in academic excellence and ethical value.

Praxis aims at combining the art and science of theoretical learning with virtues of practical training. The program at Praxis is, on the one hand, rooted in the principles of academic rigour and discipline, and, on the other, designed to offer multiple touch-points with the industry.

The PBS Advantage

Classroom Sessions– The pedagogy at Praxis encourages students to think rather than learn by rote – the textbook is a mere starting point. Faculty members expect students to come prepared with the concepts outlined in the textbooks – the class is the arena to take the discussion to a higher plane and to develop different perspectives.

Case Studies– Case studies help in achieving three objectives. One, students get an opportunity to apply concepts to real-life situations. Two, case studies require the students to discuss their points of view thus sharpening their analytical and communication skills. Three, case studies train students to assimilate multiple perspectives.

Projects– Projects give students exposure to the field and an insight into real-life situations. The course will give an opportunity to students to handle ‘live’ projects, making their learning truly experiential.

Presentations– Students at Praxis are made to deliver a number of presentations. This exercise, which emphasizes both content and style, trains students to structure their thoughts and increases their confidence in public speaking.
