RAMAIAH INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES (RIMS) is an institution higher education dedicated to the cause of business education. The institution is a part of the MS RAMAIAH Foundation, a charitable trust that has the avowed objective of providing exemplary service in all of its offerings.


Dr M R PATTABIRAM, the Managing Trustee of MS RAMAIAH FOUNDATION and Founding Director of RAMAIAH INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES, is the proud son of the visionary educationist, Sri. M.S.Ramaiah. Ever anxious to look beyond the ordinary and the local, he had an abiding passion for creating a management institution that would one day be counted among the best in the world. Thus was born RAMAIAH INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES (RIMS). Dr M.R. Pattabhiram has over 25 years of rich academic experience and has nurtured the Medical, Management, Law Colleges & a 1000 bed hospital of the MSR Group. He has developed the management institute and the college of law, on the firm foundation based on market-driven academic inputs, through `disciplined environment, thrust on culture and behaviour, and value addition courses to augment curricular inputs, like yoga, sports, and participative learning process. Believes inhumane approach in management, built a team of committed faculty and support staff.

The RIMS Advantage


Industrial Visit– The purpose of visiting industries is to understand industrial processes. An opportunity is provided to interact with a senior executive to further enhance one’s appreciation of why certain processes happen the way they do. Students are encouraged to make suggestions for improvement and if accepted by the organization, the best suggestions are suitably recognized.


Attendance Policy– Students are not allowed to miss any class, quiz or examination, without the permission of the Dean. Minimum attendance required is 85%. If the attendance falls below 85% but not below 75% – there will be a penalty/fine levied, as decided by the Dean. If in any course, the attendance falls below 75%, the student will have to repeat the course, vied a supplementary examination.


Anti-Ragging Policy– The students of this Institute are hereby instructed to note that RAGGING is a cognizable offence under Karnataka Education Act 1983. The offence is non-bailable. It will attract one-year imprisonment under section 116 or fine of Rs.25,000/- or both. Police can arrest anyone indulging in ragging on the spot without any warrant under IPC 326, 504 and 506 for intimidation and threatening. The offenders may be expelled from the Institute. Marks cards will show the student’s role in ragging.


The photographs of students who involve in ragging and against whom prima-facia cases are made shall be published in local newspapers.


Those students who have indulged in such activities will have a bleak future in as much as, they would not be entitled to get a passport or VISA to go abroad.




A sound and consistent scholastic record is a good starting point. A minimum score of 50% is expected at the X, XII and graduate levels. A post-graduate degree, diploma, work experience, internship although not essential, would be an advantage.


There would be a fee concession for candidates belonging to the SC/ST category on submission of required documents. Admissions are done on the basis of score in CAT/ MAT/ XAT/ CMAT/KMAT/ATMA followed by presentation, essay and personal interview round


The Institute considers CAT/ MAT/ XAT/ CMAT/KMAT/ATMA scores for admissions to its PGDM (equivalent to MBA) programme. Based on merit, candidates who qualify on various parameters (CAT/ MAT etc. scores, graduation scores) will be called for Group Discussion, Personal Interview and Written Test to be held at RIMS Campus and possibly other cities in India.


The admission is based on the following parameters:


Previous Academic Performance – Candidates’ academic performance at the undergraduate level, 12th and 10th levels will be reckoned for consideration for admission.


Written Test – Candidates will be given a situation to assess and give their response. Time allowed for the test will be for a maximum of 20 minutes.


Group Discussion – The group discussion is generally held for about 25 minutes in which a maximum of 10 candidates participate in each group and interact with each other on a given topic. The candidates are evaluated by a panel on their initiative, logical content, group behaviour, communication etc.


Personal Interview – It is a one to one interview between the candidate and a panel for about 10-15 minutes in which a candidate is evaluated on his personality, communication ability, functional knowledge, general awareness, orientation for management course etc.


During personal interview candidate may be asked about his/her background, strengths and weaknesses, career objectives, reasons for joining PGDM (equivalent to MBA) course, subjects studied at undergraduate.

Dates and Deadlines– Applications to the full-time PGPM and MBA program are accepted from November to May each year. Admissions decisions are made on a continuous basis and the final deadline date in the application cycle is June 30th. In order to ensure your best chance for entry, please submit your application as early as possible in the admission cycle. Please be aware that admission to RIMS is highly competitive and the class may become full before the final application deadline date. So it is suggested that the application is submitted at the earliest to improve the probability of being admitted.
